Upland Councilman Richard McClintock dead at 93




Upland Borough Councilman and former Mayor Richard McClintock died Sunday at age 93.

Upland Borough Councilman and former Mayor Richard McClintock died Sunday at age 93.

The Upland community is mourning the death of longtime borough official and Councilman Richard McClintock, who died on Sunday. McClintock, 93, spent the better part of his life serving the borough he loved. At the time of his death, he was a sitting councilman.

McClintock was past commander of the Upland American Legion Post 871; a member of the Upland Fire Company; president of the Upland Athletic Committee.; an Upland police officer; former borough mayor; member of the Chester-Upland School Board; and chairman emeritus of the Upland Republican Party. He was a member of American Legion Post #926; a member of the Brookhaven Lions Club; life member of the Southeast Police Chief’s Association; on the Delaware County Parks board; Chester Masonic Lodge #236 F&AM; and life member of the Delaware County Fireman’s Association.

McClintock retired from Crozer Chester Medical Center where he worked as director of Security. He was also a veteran of the US Army.

“Our hearts are heavy here in Upland,” said Council President Christine Peterson. “Dick was the true patriarch of Upland. He was one of the longest serving officials in our town and was very dedicated to Upland. He was a true man of his word. When he said something, he stood by it completely. I had great respect for him and will mis him.”

McClintock is predeceased by a son, R. Leonard McClintock; his parents; brothers, William, Thomas, Leonard, Robert, James, John, and Edward; and a great-great grandson, Bailey Coury.

McClintock is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; daughter, Sandra Coury, grandson, Aaron Coury, granddaughter, Christina Beck (Tim); great-grandchildren, Ben, Emily and Aiden Coury; daughter-in-law, Diane McClintock; and sister-in-law, Florence McClintock.

Visitation will take place from 9:30- 10:45 a.m., on Nov. 15 at the Minshall Shropshire- Bleyler Funeral Home, Ltd., Middletown (Rte. #352) & Knowlton Rds., Middletown Twp., in Media. The funeral will start at 11 a.m.

McClintock will be buried with full military honors at Lawn Croft Cemetery.

In honor of his many services to Upland borough, donations in his memory may be made to the Upland Fire Company, McClintock Drive, Upland, PA 19015.
